Join award-winning Canadian children’s author, educator, and Brock University professor Dr. Kari-Lynn Winters for an interactive three-session workshop that guides participants through every stage of the children’s book writing journey-from developing an idea to preparing a manuscript for publication.

Through hands-on writing activities, creative prompts, group discussions, and collaborative feedback, you’ll build the confidence and skills to create memorable stories while learning from one of Canada’s leading children’s authors.

July 29, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm – Session One (1.5 hours): Creating Incredible Fiction 
Learn the building blocks of unforgettable children’s stories, including creating compelling characters, crafting engaging plots, incorporating humour, and writing stories that captivate young readers.

July 29, 1:00-2:30 pm – Session Two (1.5 hours): Writing Engaging Nonfiction
Discover how to transform facts into fascinating narratives that spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and inspire children to learn more about the world around them.

July 30, 1:00-3:00 pm – Session Three (2 hours): Editing, Critiquing, and Publishing
Refine your manuscript through effective editing techniques, learn how to give and receive constructive feedback, and gain valuable insights into the children’s publishing process.

About the Instructor

Dr. Kari-Lynn Winters is an award-winning Canadian children’s author, performer, and Full Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Brock University’s Faculty of Education. She has written more than 40 books for young readers, including playful picture books and engaging nonfiction titles. Known for her energetic storytelling and interactive presentations, Kari-Lynn creates stories that inspire laughter, imagination, movement, and meaningful connections for children, families, educators, and communities across Canada.
